Friday, February 04, 2011

MACON, Ga. - The first Atlantic Sun/CSS Game of the Week features some of the conference's top freshmen when USC Upstate, led by Torrey Craig, faces Stetson and Corey Walden at 7 p.m. from the Edmunds Center in DeLand, Fla.

We could be seeing a vast majority of the Atlantic Sun’s All-Freshman team on display in this game. Five of the conference’s top nine freshmen scorers will be a part of this contest, headed up by the top two scorers, Craig and Walden. Stetson and USC Upstate get the most points by freshmen among the A-Sun. The Hatters receive 35.0 points per game from first-year players while the Spartans get 34.1 points per game from freshmen

Craig’s 18.5 points per game in league play ranks as the fourth-highest average, in conference play only, across the country, trailing narrowly Ohio State’s Jared Sullinger.

In addition to Walden, fellow Stetson freshman Steve Forbes has improved as a scorer since the calendar turned to 2011, increasing his scoring and rebounding by 50.0. Additionally, his first two double –doubles have come in his last six games.

Matt Stewart and former ETSU head coach Sonny Smith will handle the broadcast. For those outside the CSS markets, catch all the action on ESPN3.com or on ESPN Full Court.
