Mills, Jacobo Win Final Hoops Weekly Awards

MACON, Ga. – The Atlantic Sun conference handed out its final Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week awards of the season with Mercer’s Brian Mills and Stetson’s Luis Jacobo claiming the respective accolades, the conference announced on Monday.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Brian Mills, Mercer (Forward – Sr. – Douglasville, Ga. – Mathematics)

  • First A-Sun Player of the Week award this year
  • Led all scorers (15 points) and rebounders (eight) against A-Sun leader Belmont
  • Totaled team-high 20 points in win against Lipscomb in regular season finale
  • Finished conference season placing fourth in scoring average, 17.5 PPG

 

OTHER NOMINEES:

  • Junard Hartley (Sr., Campbell) - Averaged 16 PPG and 7.5 APG;Moved into secnd place on the A-Sun all-time assists list and now has 594 assists in 120 career games
  • Adnan Hodzic (Sr., Lipscomb) - Averaged 16.0 PPG and 9.5 RPG; Needs seven points to become the sixth Bison to reach 2,000 points
  • Kerron Johnson (So., Belmont) - Averaged 10.5 PPG, 5.5 SPG and 4.0 APG; Set a program record with nine steals At Kennesaw State
  • Parker Smith (So., UNF) - Posted back-to-back double digit scoring performances; Moved to second on UNF's single season 3-pointer list
  • Adam Sollazzo (Sr., ETSU) - Without starters Mike Smith and Micah Williams, Sollazzo posted a career high 22 points to go with four rebounds and four assists at Campbell
  • Mezie Uzochukwu (Sr., USC Upstate) – Totaled 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds as USC Upstate topped Campbell

 

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK:
Luis Jacobo, Stetson (Forward – Fr. – Sanford, Fla. – General Studies)

  • Second A-Sun Newcomer of the Week award
  • Scored a team season-high and a career-high 28 points against Jacksonville
  • Added 11 rebounds for second double-double of season
  • Led Hatters to win against JU in the final game for Coach Waugh in his Stetson career
  • Added three assists, two blocks and a steal against Dolphins
  • Averaged 19.0 PPG, 8.0 RPG, 2.0 SPG in games vs Jacksonville and UNF

 

OTHER NOMINEES:

  • Torrey Craig (Fr., USC Upstate) - Finished with a game-high 20 points as USC Upstate downed Campbell; Also grabbed seven rebounds
  • Keith McDougald (Fr., Jacksonville) - Led JU in scoring at Stetson and scored all nine of his points at FGCU in the second half
  • Jimmy Williams (Jr., UNF) - Led team in rebounding as a guard against both Stetson and FGCU grabbing back-to-back double digit performances (10 vs Stetson and 11 vs FGCU)
