Friday, March 18, 2011 TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Belmont men's basketball team (30-5) saw it's upset hopes slip away down the stretch in the Second Round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament. The 14th seeded Bruins were held off by No.4 Wisconsin (24-8), 72-58. The Bruins kept the first half close until in the final five minutes the Badgers exploded from behind the arc, netting three consecutive triples. Belmont took a seven-point deficit into the locker room, 34-27. Wisconsin continued to use a strong performance behind the arc to pull away from BU in the second stanza. Despite a flurry of activity from all over the floor by the Bruins in the final two and a half minutes, it was not enough to close the gap.' Mick Hedgepeth (Crossville, Ala.) led the Bruins with 17 points, followed by sophomore Kerron Johnson (Huntsville, Ala.) with 13. The pair also led BU in rebounds, pulling down three apiece. |
