ETSU's Smith Named to Lou Henson All-America Team

BOSTON - CollegeInsider.com announced the the 2011 Lou Henson All-America team with Mike Smith, the 2010-11 Atlantic Sun Player of the Year from ETSU making the 25-man squad.

The 2011 Lou Henson Player of the Year will be announced at the CollegeInsider.com awards banquet on April 1 in Houston, site of the men’s basketball championship.

Smith has led ETSU to the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament semifinals. The Buccaneers face Iona Saturday at 2 p.m. at the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center. Iona features two on the Lou Henson All-America team in Mike Glover and Scott Machado. Smith enters averaging 17.9 points per game - second in the Atlantic Sun. He joins Duke's Kyle Singler as the only two active players with 1,750 points, 750 rebounds and 100 3-point field goals.

The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the top Mid-Major player in Division I college basketball. The award is named in honor of Lou Henson who retired after a spectacular coaching career that lasted 41 years. When he left the game in 2005 he was sixth all-time in career Division I wins with 779. He is the winningest coach at both Illinois and New Mexico State. He is one of only 12 coaches in the history of the game to take two schools to the Final Four
