Former Bruin Alex Renfroe Signs with Top Italian League

BRINDISI, Italy - Former Belmont men's basketball standout and the 2009 Atlantic Sun Player of the Year, Alex Renfroe has signed a one-year professional contract with Enel Brindisi of Lega Basket Serie A in Italy.

Renfroe, who as a Bruin senior in 2008-09 was named Associated Press Honorable Mention All-America and Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year, joins Enel Brindisi after a successful campaign for KK Zagreb of Croatia.

The Nashville, Tenn. native and Hume Fogg High School graduate averaged 11.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and a league-leading 2.4 steals per game in leading Zagreb to the Croatian league title and National Cup trophy.

After likewise stellar play in the Adriatic League and EuroChallenge, Renfroe was named to the Eurobasket.com Croatian A1 League All-Imports Team for 2010-11.

In 2009-10, Renfroe was named the MasterCard Baltic Basketball League (BBL) Most Valuable Player playing for VEF Riga. Renfroe finished the regular season ranked in the top-eight in five different league statistical categories. He was seventh in scoring (15.2), fifth in rebounding (7.4), second in steals (2.1), first in assists (7.1), and eighth in field goal percentage (56.2). He also posted a league-best seven double-doubles and had a league-high two triple-doubles.

The 6-2 guard also elevated his play in one of Europe's top showcase events, EuroChallenge, averaging 20.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 9.8 assists per game in the six game competition.

Lega Basket Serie A is the highest level professional competition in Italy.
