MACON, Ga. - Mercer's Travis Smith and North Florida's Beau Beech captured the first Atlantic Sun Men's Basketball Weekly Honors of the New Year, announced Tuesday by the league office.
Both led their teams to wins in the conference openers on New Year's Eve with career-high in points. Smith posted 25 points in a six-point win vs. Stetson, while Beech hit five three pointers to guide him to 17 points in a victory vs. Lipscomb.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Travis Smith, Mercer (G – Sr. – John's Island, S.C. – Business)
- First Career A-Sun Player of the Week honor
- Tallied career-high in points vs. Stetson with 25
- Shot 7-of-15 from the field in the A-Sun opener
- Hit five of his nine three-point attempts in the win
- Added two assists, one rebound and a steal
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Ricardo Glenn (F, USC Upstate) - Recorded his third-straight double-double with 15 points, 12 rebounds
- Travis Wallace (F, North Florida) - Led Ospreys to win vs. Lipscomb with 24 points and eight rebounds
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK:
Beau Beech, North Florida (G – Fr. – Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.)
- First Career Newcomer of the Week honor
- Scored a career-high 17 points vs. Lipscomb
- Hit five three-pointers in the victory on 11 attempts
- Added two rebounds and two steals in the 14-point win
