Kennesaw State’s Markeith Cummings is one of the top scorers in the A-Sun, averaging nearly 17 points per game. He is the A-Sun’s active career leader in scoring (1823), field goals made (639), field goals attempted (1398) and free throws made (457), ranking him 13th, 14th, 15th and ninth in the A-Sun record books, respectively. He is also KSU's all-time leading scorer.

The Owls took Mercer to the limit last season in the KSU Convocation Center, falling 61-57 to the eventual CIT Champions. The Owls trailed by three at halftime and led by as many as six points midway through the second half but couldn’t hold the lead. KSU’s Spencer Dixon led all scorers with 19 points and Cummings and Delbert Love each added 15. The Bears had four players in double figures, led by Jakob Gollon (17), while Bud Thomas added 14, Monty Brown scored 12 and Langston Hall added 11.

Aaron Anderson, Love and Cummings drive the Owls. Anderson has led the team in rebounding in 11 of KSU’s 14 games and in scoring twice, while Cummings has led in scoring nine times and Love has led in scoring three times and in rebounding twice. KSU’s win came in overtime against South Carolina State, 67-65, on Nov. 12. Kennesaw State opened A-Sun Conference play on Dec. 31 and fell 68-59 to Florida Gulf Coast at the KSU Convocation Center. The Owls also fell to Stetson, 70-60, on Jan. 2.

Kennesaw State returns five letter winners from last year’s club that posted a 3-28 overall record. The list of returnees includes seniors Anderson and Cummings, juniors Brandon Dawson and Andrew Osemhen and the sophomore Love. The trio of Cummings, Anderson and Love accounted for 58.5 percent of Kennesaw State’s points during the 2011-12 season. The Owls’ 13-man roster entered the season with a combined 11 years of Division I collegiate experience, an average of 0.85 years per player. It ranks as the sixth-youngest team in the country.
