#ASunMBB: Jacksonville Tops UNF, Moves Into Tie for First

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Three players scored in double figures as Jacksonville defeated North Florida 77-68 at UNF Arena in the A-Sun/CSS Friday Night Game of the Week and moved into a first-place tie with Stetson in the A-Sun men's basketball standings.

The win is Jacksonville's first in the last four attempts against North Florida, bringing the Dolphins to 10-10 overall andinto a tie with the Hatters atop the A-Sun at 5-2. The Dolphins were led by Davon Dawson and Keith McDougald with 17 points each and Glenn Powell added 14 points and led all players with eight rebounds in the win. Parker Smith led all scorers with 19 points for North Florida and Travis Wallace added 13 points and his six rebounds led the Ospreys. A-Sun assist leader Will Wilson contributed 11 assists for North Florida in the loss.

In a closely contested game throughout, both teams led by as many as five points in a first half that ended in a 31-31 tie. Smith hit a quick three-pointer to start the second half for North Florida and seven minutes into the period the Ospreys stretched their lead to five at 48-43. The game would experience three more ties before Jacksonville's Keith McDougald knocked down a three-pointer with 7:29 remaining to give the Dolphins a 59-56 lead.

During the next five minutes, North Florida drew within one on four occasions, the last at 69-68 with 2:37 remaining. Glenn Powell scored the last of his points on a jumper with 2:04 remaining and Russell Powell, Jarvis Haywood and McDougald knocked down free throws to score the last eight points of the game and secure the win for Jacksonville.

A-Sun men's basketball action on Saturday includes ETSU at Kennesaw State at 2:30 p.m., Lipscomb at Stetson on ESPN 3 at 3:15 p.m., USC Upstate at Mercer at 4:30 p.m. and Northern Kentucky at FGCU at 5:15 p.m.
