MACON, Ga. - FGCU's Sherwood Brown and Jacksonville's Javon Dawson earned the Atlantic Sun Men's Basketball Weekly Award winners, announced Tuesday by the league office.
Brown tallied his third and fourth-straight double-doubles, which set a program record, against Lipscomb and Northern Kentucky. JU's Dawson guided the Dolphins to a win in the River City Rumble with 17 points and six rebounds in only 22 minutes of action.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Sherwood Brown, FGCU (G – Sr. – Orlando, Fla. – Legal Studies)
- Third Career A-Sun Player of the Week honor; second this season
- Posted a pair of double-doubles on the week for the Eagles
- Recorded 20 points, 10 rebounds and three assists against Lipscomb
- Added 29 points, 10 rebounds and two steals in win vs. Northern Kentucky
- Averaged 24.5 PPG, 10 RPG, 2 APG and shot 62.5 percent from the field
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Deonte Alexander (G, Lipscomb) - Tallied back-to-back 20-point games with 29 and 23 on the road
- Chris Perez (G, Stetson) - Guided Hatters to two home victories by averaging 19 PPG and 4.5 RPG
- Langston Hall (G, Mercer) - Nearly posted a triple-double vs. ETSU with 13 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds
- Torrey Craig (F, USC Upstate) - Averaged 19.5 PPG and 7.5 RPG in two road contests
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK:
Javon Dawson, Jacksonville (F – Jr. – Cordele, Ga. – Communications)
- First Career Newcomer of the Week honor
- Totaled 17 points and six rebounds in nine-point win at UNF
- Shot 7-of-10 from the field and was perfect from three and free throws
- Had 13 of his point total in only 13 minutes of action in the first half
- Pulled down three offensive rebounds and three defensive
