MACON, Ga. – A total of eight additional USC Upstate men’s and women’s basketball games join the list of Atlantic Sun Conference games scheduled to be delivered through March 2 on ESPN3.
USC Upstate has already delivered eight A-Sun basketball games in January 2013 on the live multi-screen sports network.
“We are delighted that the relationship between ESPN and the Atlantic Sun Conference continues to flourish,” said Commissioner Ted Gumbart. “Once again we take advantage of the opportunity to bring additional basketball contests to the national stage and deliver well-deserved exposure for our talented student-athletes, their teams and all A-Sun member institutions. We are delighted to partner with USC Upstate in these productions, and thank USC Upstate’s Chancellor, Dr. Thomas Moore, and Director of Athletics Mike Hall for their strong leadership on this initiative.”
The schedule includes four men’s basketball and four women’s basketball games that originate from USC Upstate’s G.B. Hodge Center in Spartanburg, S.C., bringing the total to 52 live A-Sun basketball games scheduled for distribution in 2012-13.
“We are extremely pleased and excited that ESPN has extended our agreement to broadcast our remaining men’s and women's basketball schedules on ESPN3 this year,” said Mike Hall, Director of Athletics at Upstate. “Our staff here on campus has worked hard to produce broadcasts worthy of being on ESPN3. ESPN has been a great partner and resource in helping train and educate our staff. We could not be more thrilled to extend the partnership and further enhance the A-Sun’s efforts in establishing a brand on ESPN and its family of networks.”
ESPN3 is also the home of the conference’s women’s basketball package, which highlights each A-Sun institution through five regular season games and all of the 2013 General Shale Atlantic Sun Basketball Championship quarterfinal contests. A seven-game regular season men’s package, in addition to men’s quarterfinal action, is part of the exclusive agreement. Already in 2012-13 the semifinals and the final of the 2012 A-Sun Volleyball Championship were distributed live on ESPN3. Along with basketball, exclusive content including baseball and softball will also be carried on ESPN3. Last season the championship games of the A-Sun Baseball and Softball Championships were included for the first time, and are a part of the exclusive content schedule for this season.
The Atlantic Sun and ESPN have a long-standing relationship that first began with the airing of the conference’s tournament title game back in 1989. For the fifth season, all of the conference’s CSS/A-Sun Friday Night Game of the Week contests will be available on the ESPN Full Court package and on ESPN3.
