MACON, Ga. - Stetson took home the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week honor for the second-straight week as Joel Naburgs received the accolade for the first time in his career, while North Florida's Beau Beech was tabbed the Newcomer of the Week.
Naburgs posted a career-high 27 points on six three pointers, while adding seven rebounds and six assists in a win vs. FGCU. UNF's Beech guided the Ospreys to two home victories vs. ETSU and USC Upstate to clinch a spot for UNF in the 2013 General Shale Atlantic Sun Men's Basketball Championship.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Joel Naburgs, Stetson (G – Sr. – Ringwood, Australia – General Studies)
- First Career A-Sun Player of the Week honor
- Posted a career-high 27 points vs. FGCU in CSS Friday Night Contest
- Hit six of nine attempts from three-point range
- Added a perfect effort from the charity stripe; 5-for-5
- Pulled down seven rebounds with six assists and two steals
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Keith McDougald (G, Jacksonville) - Totaled 21 points - 15 in the second half - in 68-64 win vs. USC Upstate
- Charles McRoy (F, North Florida) - Posted first career double-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds vs. ETSU
- Travis Smith (G, Mercer) - Led Bears to 2-0 week and share of A-Sun Regular Season title
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK:
Beau Beech, North Florida (G – Fr. – Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. – Business Management)
- Second Career Newcomer of the Week honor
- Guided Ospreys to two key wins vs. ETSU and USC Upstate
- Averaged 15.5 PPG and 7.0 RPG on 11-of-17 shooting
- Hit eight three pointers out of 12 attempts in the two home wins
- North Florida clinched a spot in the 2013 General Shale Basketball Championship
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Kordario Fleming (F, Jacksonville) - Poured in a career-high 18 points with six rebounds vs. ETSU on Saturday
- Hunter Harris (F, ETSU) - Led ETSU to victory at JU with 22 points, six rebounds and three steals
