A-Sun Announces 2013-14 Championship Schedule

Monday, July 01, 2013

MACON, Ga. – The Atlantic Sun Conference announces its complete 2013-14 championship schedule today, following the final determination of several sites by the Presidents Council.

Four schools – Florida Gulf Coast, Jacksonville, Lipscomb and North Florida – are scheduled to play host to multiple championships in 2013-14, and championship formats for soccer and basketball could add additional schools to this list.

For the fall, Lipscomb will host the 2013 Cross Country Championship on Nov. 2 in Nashville, while A-Sun soccer will follow a pair of slightly different formats. The women's soccer championship will take place Nov. 2-10, with the first round of the women's soccer championship being played at campus sites of the three highest seeded teams. The championship round to include the final four will be hosted by the No. 1 seed.

The men’s soccer championship will once again be played at the home of the top-seeded team, Nov. 13-17.

Kennesaw State welcomes the A-Sun's top six teams to its Convocation Center for the 2013 Volleyball Championship, Nov. 21-13, to round out the slate of fall championships.

As the spring championships begin in February, a host and location for the 2014 Indoor Track & Field Championship, Feb. 28 - March 1, is to be determined.

Regular season success becomes even more meaningful in the A-Sun's basketball championships in 2014, as both the men's and women's championships formats have changed from recent years. The men's championship, March 4-9, 2014, will be played on campus sites throughout the championship, hosted by the highest seeds advancing in each round. The women will also begin their championship at campus sites hosted by the top four seeds, then move its semifinals and finals to the campus of the No. 1 seed. The women's championship will be played March 11-16, 2014.

Following the basketball championships, four spring sport championships will be decided in a span of eight days in the month of April. Jacksonville University will once again host the women's golf championship at the Pine Lakes Course at Jekyll Island, April 14-16. Over the same weekend the University of North Florida Tennis Complex will serve the men's and women's tennis championship, April 18-20, and Florida Gulf Coast University will host its first sand volleyball championship, April 19-20. Men's golf, hosted by the conference and Chateau Elan, will return to the Legends Course at Chateau Elan in Braselton, Ga.

May becomes the A-Sun's busiest month in 2014, as five championships will decided including men's and women's lacrosse, softball, outdoor track & field and baseball. Three of the five will take place in the Sunshine State, as Jacksonville once again hosts the women's lacrosse championship at D.D. Milne Field, May 2-4, North Florida hosts its sixth straight outdoor track & field championship at Hodges Stadium, May 16-17, and FGCU hosts baseball, May 21-25, at Swanson Stadium. Lipscomb's Draper Diamond is also once again home to the softball championship, May 7-10. A host and site is also to be determined for men's lacrosse, with the date set for May 1-3.
