• Sophomore Andy Wicke - who was named Atlantic Sun Player
of the Week Monday - scored a career-high 31 points against Gardner-Webb. His
10 three-pointers set a Curb Event Center record. • Belmont went 31-of-63 from
three-point range in the two home victories. • The Bruins have also grabbed
40 or more rebounds in each of their past four games. Belmont leads the Atlantic
Sun in rebounding margin at +2.6.
• Campbell has suffered four losses by three, or fewer, points
in Atlantic Sun Conference play, including three one-point setbacks. • This
year’s team has produced the program’s most victories (11) since the 1999-2000
squad finished 12-16. • Campbell’s four seniors – Ledell Eackles, Russ Gibson,
Colin Hunt and Eric Smith – will play in their final home game on Saturday when
the Camels host Gardner-Webb at 6:00 p.m.
• ETSU improves to 20-8 overall, 14-2 in Atlantic Sun action,
and more importantly wrapped up at least a share of the A-Sun regular season
title with the win at KSU. • Senior forward Brad Nuckles earned his 16th career
double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds in the win. Nuckles is currently
52 points shy of reaching 1,000 for his career. • The Bucs continue to be led
offensively by Courtney Pigram , who hit on 5-of-8 from 3-point range and posted
23 points in the win at Kennesaw State.
• In a pair of upset attempts, Kennesaw State led Georgia with
just over three-minutes to play and against ETSU, the Owls led by 12-points
in the second half before Courtney Pigram exploded for 19 second half points.
• The Owls have two home games left, against Mercer and Stetson and if they
win both they would finish at .500 in the league for the second straight season.
• Shuan Stegall ended a streak of eight games without a double-double when he
dropped one on ETSU on Saturday.
• Guards Brian Fisk, Trey Williams and JanAndre Williams were
honored at Senior Day prior to the Bisons 59-57 win over Gardner-Webb at Allen
Arena Saturday. • Thursday's 67-64 defeat of Campbell at Allen Arena was payback
time for the Bisons. The only home loss they had last season was to Campbell.
• The Bisons are 21st nationally in turnovers with an average of 12 per game.
• Freshman sensation James Florence continues to lead the conference
in scoring at 18.7 ppg, ranking 38th in the nation as of Feb. 8, and continues
to stand as one of only two freshmen in the country to lead their respective
conferences in scoring. He has scored 467 points in his rookie season and stands
35 points away from breaking former Mercer standout Scott Emerson’s freshman
scoring record of 501 points. • Including last week’s two one-point decisions,
Mercer has played in five conference games decided by an average of 3.2 points.
• The Hatters put together their first 3-game winning streak
of the year, taking a trio of home games last week. • A freshman grabbed headlines
last week when A.J. Smith hit all eight of his shots, included six treys, for
22 points in Thursday’s win over UNF. • Senior Gabe McMillen hit 18-of-19 free
throws against Savannah State.
