McMillen, Wicke Shoot Their Way to A-Sun POTW Honors

MACON, Ga. Stetson senior Gabe McMillen and Belmont sophomore Andy Wicke torched the nets last week on their way to sharing Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week honors as announced by the league office on Monday.
McMillen put the Hatters on his back last week to help the team build some much needed momentum, winning three straight contests at the Edmunds Center. His senior night performance against Jacksonville featured 21 points and the decisive free throws in the 62-57 victory. On Thursday versus UNF, the Largo, Fla., native stuffed the box score with 16 points five boards, five assists and three steals. McMillen opened the week with a career-high 23 points in a non-conference win over Savannah State. In that game, the senior hit 18-of-19 from the foul line. For the week, McMillen averaged 20.0 points per game while shooting 54.5% from the three-point line. He majors in General Business.
Wicke starred in a three-point shooting clinic for Belmont in a pair of wins last week. In Belmonts 87-55 win over Gardner-Webb, the sophomore drilled 10 three-pointers on his way to a career-high 31 points. He finished the game 10-of-12 from beyond the arc and helped set five Curb Event Center records in the victory. His 10 three-pointers are the fourth most by an individual this season in the NCAA. The Hendersonville, Tenn., native added 13 points and a game-high six assists to carry the Bruins past Campbell on Saturday. For the week, Wicke averaged 22.0 points per game and shot a sizzling 68.4% (13-of-19) from the three-point line. Wicke majors in Environmental Studies.
The Atlantic Sun Conference hands out Player of the Week awards weekly during the 2006-07 mens basketball campaign.
The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08.
