JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - From the darkness of a one-win season came a light for
the Jacksonville men's basketball program. That light grew bright this season
as the Dolphins went 15-14 and completed the best turnaround in the country.
"While we are happy with having the best turnaround in the country this season,
we know there is still a lot of work to be done for this team to reach its goals,"
said JU head coach Cliff Warren. "We aren't resting on our laurels - we are
working right now on getting better each day, whether it be in player development,
recruiting or scheduling. We are trying to give the young men in our program
every chance to be successful next season."
The Dolphins turnaround was sparked in part by a 12-1 record at home - the
best home record posted by JU since the early 1990s.
Another key to JU's turnaround was the play of the freshman class. Four freshmen
saw time in the starting lineup at some point during the season and all five
made significant contributions.
But the key piece was senior Jesse Kimbrough, whose leadership and experience
was leaned upon heavily as the season went along.
"The freshmen improved as the season went along and learned from each game
as a new experience," Warren said. "But our success this year was a complete
team effort. Everyone on the team had to do their role, and do it well, for
us to win."
