Macon, Ga. – Stetson’s E.J. Gordon and Gardner-Webb’s Tim Jennings share Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week honors after leading their respective teams to undefeated weeks and upset victories over then-league leaders.
Gordon kicked off the week with a huge all-around game while handing league-leading Lipscomb their worst A-Sun defeat of the season, 85-67, in Deland. The 6-4 guard scored 23 points while collecting eight rebounds, five assists and five steals in that game. He closed the week in similar fashion, registering 14 points, six boards and seven assists in the A-Sun/CSS Game of the Week, a one-point Hatter victory at Mercer. On Sunday, Gordon’s notched a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds to lift Stetson past Florida Atlantic. For the week, the DeLand, Fla., native averaged 18.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 3.3 steals per game while shooting 63 percent from the floor and logging over 35 minutes a game.
Gordon’s play has helped Stetson reel off six wins in their last seven games and a 5-1 mark in the second half of the A-Sun season. The guard ranks third in school history and 16th in A-Sun history with 1563 career points. Gordon is majoring in Sociology.
Jennings hit an amazing 9-of-11 three-pointers, including seven in a row at one point, to carry Gardner-Webb to impressive road wins at Kennesaw State and ETSU. At Kennesaw, Jennings scored only 11 points, but held KSU’s Ronnell Wooten to just two second half points to help the Bulldogs cruise to an impressive 84-58 victory. Two nights later, the guard matched a career-high with 28 points while burying 6-of-8 three-pointers. The reigning A-Sun Defensive Player of the Year hounded the league’s leading scorer Tim Smith into a 9-for-27 day from the floor while GWU limited then league-leading ETSU to just 36.7 percent shooting from the floor overall.
The Conway, S.C., native has averaged 19.0 points per game over his last three outings while the Runnin’ Bulldogs have won seven of their last eight contests. Jennings majors in Sociology.
