Spartans’ Kemboi Conquers Second Weekly Award

MACON, Ga. - USC Upstate freshman Gilbert Kemboi turned in another dazzling weekend, placing second at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational. On Wednesday, the conference office announced that he had another second, a second Runner of the Week award..

Kemboi, a nursing major, finished as the first collegian to cross the finish line at Friday’s Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational in Blacksburg, Va. Kemboi finished in second place after posting a time of 23:49.90, less than two seconds behind the meet winner. The field included a total of 94 runners including runners from Atlantic Coast Conference members Florida State, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. The freshman from Eldoret, Kenya has recorded two first-place finishes this season complimented by Friday’s second place run.

Other Top Performers
Terence Attema, Campbell (Jr. - Smithville, Ontario - Math) -- Attema led Campbell, finishing third in the 8K with a time of 26:00, coming in eleven seconds behind ECU’s Dillon Hawley (2nd). His time marks a new personal best.

Jaakko Nieminen, Kennesaw State (So. - Uurainen, Finland - Business) -- Finished 23rd at the 129-man field at Crimson Classic hosted by in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Led Owls to sixth place finish out of 16 teams, including a victory over ETSU. Finished fourth out of 20 A-Sun runners.
