Jacksonville and Kennesaw State Retain Top Spot

MACON, Ga. – With three weeks of competition remaining until the 2010 Atlantic Sun Conference Cross Country Championships on October 30th, Kennesaw State and Jacksonville remained at the top of the A-Sun Cross Country Coaches’ Polls in the third edition of the rankings. The Owls and Dolphins have stood atop the top the polls all season including the preseason edition.

The Owls received 10 of the 11 first-place votes in the men’s poll as there was little fluctuation amongst teams on the men’s side. Kennesaw’s point lead decreased from 16 to 14 as USC Upstate earned two more points in the poll as well as the remaining first-place vote. Lipscomb moved ahead of ETSU for fourth place after finishing 11th at the Williamette Charles Bowles Invite in Salem, Ore.

The Dolphins increased their point lead by one over River City rival, UNF, after earning nine top votes, while Lipscomb leaped past USC Upstate for third place after earning one first-place tally. Jacksonville won the FLRunners.com Invitational over the weekend led by Joan Pierre, who claimed her second meet title of the season.

Also in the top-five on the men’s side is Belmont in third place, who finished 26th at the Greater Louisville Classic over the weekend with Lipscomb and ETSU in fourth and fifth. Following the top-five, the poll is wrapped up by UNF, FGCU, Mercer, Campbell, Jacksonville and Stetson.

The Bruin women wrap up the top five despite not competing in the past two weekends. Rounding out the rest of the poll includes Kennesaw State, FGCU, Campbell, Mercer, ETSU and Stetson.

Belmont, ETSU, FGCU, Kennesaw State and UNF all compete this weekend in three different meets; the Seminole Invitational, the Samford Invitational and the Disney Invitational.
