Spartans’ Kemboi Claims Third Weekly Award

MACON, Ga. – For the third time this season, USC Upstate sophomore runner Gilbert Kemboi earned the Atlantic Sun Conference Runner of the Week honor after claiming the individual title at the USC Upstate Invitational. The sophomore ran the course in 23:59.71, the second-fastest time ever recorded on the 8k course at Milliken Research Park, which hosts the 2010 A-Sun Championship on October 30th.

RUNNER OF THE WEEK:
Gilbert Kemboi, USC Upstate (So. – Eldoret, Kenya – Sociology)
• Sixth Career A-Sun Runner of the Week award; third this season
• Claimed individual title at the USC Upstate Invitational
• Ran the 8k course in 23:59.71 for his third meet title this season
• Led the Spartans to a second-place finish at the meet

OTHER NOMINEES:
• Sander Payne (Fr., FGCU) – helped the Eagles finish sixth at the Hatter Invitational
• Erick Kigen (Fr., Lipscomb) – placed fourth at the Fast Cats Classic in 25:37.49
• Nabil Hamid (So., Kennesaw State) – broke personal record at the UTC Invite 5k by a minute
