MACON, Ga. -- ETSU's Michael Deren was named Atlantic Sun Runner of the Week
after winning the Gardner-Webb Invitational and leading the Bucs to first place
finish. Deren won the 6K race in 18:59, marking his first collegiate career
victory.
The sophomore from Blasdell, N.Y. has led the Bucs across the finish line in
three consecutive meets this season. Before his top finish, Deren’s
previous best came in his first-ever collegiate race as he finished ninth at
the Virginia Tech Invitational last season. Deren is majoring in Math.
The Bucs will be back in action Oct. 14 when they compete in the Furman Invitational.
The Atlantic Sun Conference announces the Athlete of the Week every Wednesday
during the 2006 cross country season.
The 10-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., includes Belmont, Campbell,
ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, North Florida
and Stetson, with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate to compete in 2007.
