Macon, Ga. - Kennesaw State harrier Jason Waters (Hiram, Ga./Accounting) cruised
to his first victory of the season and was named Atlantic Sun Runner of the
Week today by the conference office.
Waters finished the 8K course in 25:15, finishing first to lead a trio of Kennesaw
State runners who ranked in the top six as the Owls won the 2005 Georgia Collegiate
Championships in Macon, Ga. The Owls won the event by 20 points over runner-up
UNC Ashville.
Kennesaw topped the field of Georgia teams with the effort of Waters, Piotr
Kaszkur and Lukasz Skrzypiec. Waters was also one of five Kennesaw State runners
to earn All-Georgia first team honors. Joining Waters was Kaszkur, Skrzypiec,
Daniel Gormly and Maxwell Ndungu.
Waters now holds the fastest time in the league this season.
On October 8, The Owls will head to Auburn, Ala., to compete in the Auburn Invitational.
The 2005 Atlantic Sun Cross Country Championships will be hosted by Campbell
on Oct. 29.
The Atlantic Sun Runner of the Week is announced every Wednesday during the
2005 cross country season.
The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell,
ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb,
Mercer, North Florida and Stetson.
