MACON, Ga. – With the Atlantic Sun Championships a month away, UNF’s Sammy Palmer continued his strong sophomore season with a fourth-place finish at the FSU Invitational on Saturday in Tallahassee, Fla. He helped the Ospreys claim the team title and now he is being honored as the Atlantic Sun’s male Runner of the Week as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
The award was Palmer's first of his career. Palmer paced the squad at the FSU Invitational where UNF defeated seven other teams including conference foe Florida Gulf Coast. Individually, Palmer finished in a time of 26:46.85, less than ten seconds off of his personal-best time this season of 26:38.46. His 8K time ranks 6th-fastest in the A-Sun this fall. Palmer has been the Ospreys number one runner at all four of UNF's meets this fall. He is the second UNF male student-athlete to win the Runner of the Week award. Fredrik Johannson won the program’s first Runner of the Week award last October on his way to earning a spot on the All-Freshman team.
