Tuesday, August 15, 2006 PONTE VEDRA, Fla. - University of North Florida golfer Jeff Dennis rallied to shoot a 69 in the final round of play at the Gate Invitational on Tuesday, finishing tied for second in an event that matches both professional and amateurs from the North Florida area. Dennis shot a three-round total of 210 at the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club, opening the tournament with a 66 on the Lagoon Course before shooting a 75 on the Ocean Course Monday. He began Tuesday 10th among all amateurs and 12th overall before vaulting up in the standings. Fellow UNF golfer Marco Morales led the tournament after two rounds of play, but couldn't match the 69 he shot Tuesday on the Ocean Course, finishing the tournament tied for sixth among all amateurs after shooting a 78 on Wednesday. Morales finished tied for eighth overall. UNF's Michael O'Neal also shot a 78 on Wednesday, while Jacob Davidson fired a 74. |
