BRUNSWICK, Ga. - The JU men's golf team opened the season on Monday the same way it ended last season - winning. The Dolphins started their 2006-07 campaign with an impressive 14-shot victory over UNF at the Sanctuary Cove Preview on the par-71 Sanctuary Cove Golf Course, the site of the 2007 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship.

JU opened an 11-shot lead after the morning 18 with a seven-under par 277, led by Duncan Stewart's course record five-under par 66. Stewart had seven birdies for the round, including a 15-footer on the 18th to finish with a three-under par 32 on the back nine.

Stewart won the individual title by following up with a one-under par 70 to post a six-under par total of 136. He won by three over teammates Russell Knox, Matt Kleinrock and UNF's J.C. Horne.

"This is a great start to our season," said JU head coach Jim Taketa. "This was a great opportunity for us to get to know the course where the conference championship is. It's a long season, so we need to keep getting better and better as the year goes along."
