Monday, April 16, 2007 Waverly, Ga. – The University of North Florida took the early lead at the 2007 Atlantic Sun Men's Golf Championship in Waverly, Ga., shooting a 302 (+18) during the first round to grab a five stroke lead over ETSU and a eight stroke over Jacksonville, the defending champions. UNF's Jeff Dennis, the 2006 Freshman of the Year, shot a 73 (+2) to lead the way for the Ospreys. His score was matched by Seamus Power and Gareth Shaw, both the ETSU. The three hold a one-stroke lead over Stetson's David McAndrew and North Florida's Michael O'Neal. McAndrew turned in an early 74 and was in position to lead heading into the second round before the final groups walked off 18. Three of the top five golfers following round one are underclassmen, including sophomores Dennis and Power, along with lone freshman McAndrew. Shaw and O'Neal are both juniors. The two-time defending individual champion, Duncan Stewart, posted a six-over, 77, and currently sits in a fourway tie for ninth. ETSU's Rhys Davies, currently ranked No. 4 in the nation, carded an eight-over, 79, to garner a 16th place tie.
