Tulsa, Okla. - Former Belmont golfer Brenton Flynn ('06) has advanced to the match play stage of the 109th U.S. Amateur Championship held this week at Southern Hills in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is the first Belmont golfer (current player or alum) to advance to this stage in the Division I era.

After shooting rounds of 74-74 in 36-hole medal play qualifying for match play Monday and Tuesday, Flynn returned this morning as part of a 28-man playoff for four remaining spots in the field of 64 for match play. Flynn birdied his first hole - the par 3 14th hole - to advance.

Flynn is the No. 62 seed and will play former University of Florida golfer Will Strickler, the No. 3 seed, in the first round of match play at 1:50 p.m.

The Golf Channel will have live coverage of the first round of match play this afternoon from 3-6 pm.
