PORTRUSH, Northern Ireland – ETSU rising senior Rhys Enoch (Cornwall, England) fell to 1-2 at the Palmer Cup on Friday, dropping his singles match 4 and 3 to American David Chung at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.

Despite Enoch’s loss, the Americans still watched as their 6-2 advantage heading into the day’s action was cut to 9-7, as the Europeans won five of the day’s eight singles matches.

Stretching back to 1997, the Palmer Cup is a Ryder Cup style competition that pits the best collegiate players from Europe against the best from the United States. The series is tied 6-6-1, with Europe having won the last two contests. Enoch is the 10th ETSU player to participate in the event.

Enoch, who had split his matches in team competition on Thursday, led early on against Chung thanks to a birdie on No. 2, but the American responded with back-to-back birdies on the next two holes to take the advantage. From there, Chung won another three straight at No. 6-8 to go 4-up, but Enoch birdied number 10 to move back to within three. However, Chung would win the next two holes to lead 5-up and would ultimately enjoy a 4 and 3 victory.

The final day of play at the Palmer Cup is set for Saturday with eight singles matches. Enoch will be taking on American Scott Langley.
