MACON, Ga. – FGCU’s Daniel Mazziotta won his second title of the season and Briana Carlson placed fourth as the pair of Eagles won the Atlantic Sun’s Men’s and Women’s Golfer of the Week awards, the conference announced on Wednesday.
MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK:
Daniel Mazziotta, FGCU (Sr. - Fort Myers, Fla. - Civil Engineering)
• First A-Sun Golfer of the Week award; Second A-Sun Honor
• Won his second individual title of the season
• Defeating Liberty’s Robert Karlsson, the 51st ranked player in the nation
• His 12-under par 204 score equaled a program record for strokes under-par in a 54-hole event
• Fired by a career-low seven-under par 65 in the first round
• Became FGCU’s all-time leader in rounds at even-par or lower
WOMEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK:
Briana Carlson, FGCU (So. – Inverness, Fla. – Accounting)
• Second A-Sun Golfer of the Week award
• Finishing fourth in 98-player field at James Madison/Eagle Landing Invitational
• Carded two sub-par rounds over the three day
• Totaled a final tournament score of 217 (70-76-71)
• Opened with a two-under par 70 and ended with a one-under par 71
• Notched her second top-five finish in as many spring tournaments
OTHER MEN’S NOMINEES:
• Kevin Aylwin (Jr., UNF) – Played as UNF’s top performer at the General Hackler Championship earning a 10th-place tie
• Mookie DeMoss (Fr., Mercer) – Took home Mercer's top individual finish at the Bandon Dunes Championship, shooting 74 in Saturday's final round to tie for 16th
• Adam Goins (Fr., USC Upstate) - Fired a 7-under-par, 54-hole total to win the Caribbean Intercollegiate for his first career collegiate championship
• Jeff Karlsson (Jr., Kennesaw State) – Awarded co-medalist at the Seminole Intercollegiate after shooting 71-70-67/208; His third-round 5-under 67 tied for the tournament’s low round
• Sam Ryder (Jr., Stetson) – Earned his third career tournament title by winning at the Mission Inn Spring Fling; led the Hatters to their first team championship of 2010-11
OTHER WOMEN’S NOMINEES:
• Sandra Angulo (Sr., Campbell) – Playing the final 36 holes two-under par, Angulo shot a four-over 220 78-71-71 and tied for seventh in the JMU/Eagle Landing Invitational
• Alexandria Buelow (So., Stetson) – Tied for seventh at the JMU Eagle Landing Invitational, shooting consistent scores of 74-73-73 for a four over par finish
