MACON, Ga. – ETSU swept the Atlantic Sun’s Men’s and Women’s Golfer of the Week awards after Paul O’Kane beat the country’s No. 1 golfer and Nina Muehl took fourth at the John Kirk/Lady Panther Intercollegiate, the conference announced on Wednesday.
MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK:
Paul O’Kane, ETSU (Sr. - Castledawson, Northern Ireland - Business)
• First A-Sun Golfer of the Week award
• Led the Bucs to an eighth-place finish at the Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championship
• Knocked off the No. 1 player in the country, Patrick Cantlay of UCLA
• Played at No. 1 position for the Bucs throughout the event
• Helped team to a first-round victory against second-seeded Alabama
WOMEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK:
Nina Muehl, ETSU (Sr. – Vienna, Austria – Business Management)
• Third A-Sun Golfer of the Week award; Fourth A-Sun award
• Matched the best round of the tournament with a 6-under-par 66 in the final round at the John Kirk/Lady Panther Intercollegiate
• Her 66 represented her third sub-70 round of the season and her eighth round of par or better
• Has three straight top-four finishes • Leads the Bucs with a with a 74.4 stroke average
OTHER MEN’S NOMINEES:
• Kevin Aylwin (Jr., UNF) – Tied for second at Schenkel Invitational; fired three sub-par rounds of 70 (-2), 71 (-1) and a career best 67 (-5)
• Ben Greene (So., Kennesaw State) – Finished fourth at Furman Intercollegiate shooting 70-70-71/211, -5; totaled 11 birdies and two eagles as Owls took second
OTHER WOMEN’S NOMINEES:
• Alexandria Buelow (So., Stetson) – Captured her second win of the season (fourth of career) at the Siena College Homewood Suites Invitational; led Hatters to a 20-stroke win
