FGCU’s Carlson, KSU’s Karlsson Claim Golf Honors

MACON, Ga. – FGCU’s Briana Carlson won the second tournament of her career to claim the Atlantic Sun’s Women’s Golfer of the Week award while Kennesaw State’s Jeff Karlsson posted a top-10 finish against a tournament field that included seven top-60 programs to win his first Men’s Golfer of the Week award, the conference announced on Wednesday.

WOMEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK:
Briana Carlson, FGCU (So. – Inverness, Fla. – Accounting)

• Third A-Sun Golfer of the Week award
• Shot her best round of the season a 67 to earn medalist honors at UC Spring Invitational
• Notched her third top-five finish of the spring
• Won her second tournament title, adding to her win at the 2009 Eagle Golf Invitational

OTHER WOMEN’S NOMINEE:
• Kimmy Graff (So., Mercer) – Took Mercer’s top individual finish at the University of Cincinnati Spring Invitational; Graff’s three-round total of 224 concluded with a final-round 73

MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK:
Jeff Karlsson, Kennesaw State (Jr. - Gothenburg, Sweeden – International Business)

• First A-Sun Golfer of the Week award
• Tied for ninth at the Linger Longer Invitational
• Shot a three-round score of (73-71-71/215, -1)
• Totaled 12 birdies over 54 holes
• Led the Owls to a sixth-place finish
• Linger Longer featured five top-50 teams

OTHER MEN’S NOMINEES:
• Joe Byun (Jr., UNF) – Recorded a season-best finish of T-11th in helping the Ospreys tie for 10th at the Hootie at Bulls Bay, an event that featured 10 top-50 teams
• Josh Cone (Jr., Mercer) – Booked a three-round total of 221 to take Mercer’s top individual finish at the Linger Longer Invitational
• Alex Medinis (Jr., FGCU) – Tied for second at the FAU Spring Break Championship; Shot five-under 211 for the tournament (68-73-70), a career-low for a 54-hole event
• Dan Smith (Sr., Belmont) – Tied for 10th at the Jacksonville State/Grub Mart Intercollegiate - his third top-10 finish of the season
