Monday, August 01, 2011 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's golf team has had an incredible summer as a pair of Ospreys qualified for the US Amateur at Erin Hills and Blue Mound Golf and Country Club in Erin, Wis. on Aug. 22-28. Junior Sean Dale and incoming freshman Joey Petronio both qualified for the US Amateur. Dale qualified at Amelia National Golf and Country Club in Fernandina Beach, Fla., posting scores of 77-66=137 to win medalist honors. Petronio was medalist at Shingle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Fla., with scores of 71-65=135. In addition to Dale and Petronio, junior Kevin Phelan is playing as an amateur in the Irish Open at the Killarney Golf and Fishing Club this week on the European Tour and opened with a round of 72. “It is always good to have guys qualify for the US Amateur, and it is even better when a freshman does it,” head coach Scott Schroeder stated. “Also, this is great experience for Kevin to play against the pros this week. He will just continue to grow as a player from this experience.”
