DEAL, KENT – A pair of A-Sun golfers are at the top of the leaderboard after two rounds of the 2013 R&A Amateur Championship, as Adrian Meronk is tied for first and Scott Gibson is tied for third after both ETSU Bucs carded rounds of 68 in Tuesday's second round to advance to match play.

Meronk (72-68/140, -3), an A-Sun Second-Team All-Conference selection and member of the A-Sun All-Freshman team, birdied four of the last six holes before making the turn and two of his last four coming in for his four-under par 68.

Gibson (73-68/141, -2), a 2013 All-Tournament Team member, went eagle-birdie on holes 15 and 16 to complete his round of 68. Both were playing at the Prince's Golf Club based in Sandwich, Kent, which hosted The Open Championship back in 1932 when Gene Sarazen prevailed. It has also been featured as a qualifying venue for Championships played at Royal St Georges.

Meronk and Gibson posted two of the 64 lowest scores over the first 36 holes and advance to compete in the match play stage of the Championship. Each match will consist of one round of 18 holes except the Final which will be over 36 holes.

In Wednesday's first round of match play, Meronk will face Denmark's Thomas Sorensen while Gibson will battle Pontus Gad of Sweden. Sorensen is currently a sophomore for the Arkansas Razorbacks, while Gad is a senior standout for TCU.

The match play stage is played over the final four days at Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club in Kent, England. The Championship Links course is regarded by many as one of the finest in the world. The Club has previously hosted two Open Championships in 1909 & 1920 and has been made one of four Final Open Qualifying venues from 2014-2017.

Other A-Sun golfers just missing the +4 cut line include North Florida senior and three-time A-Sun Player of the Year Sean Dale (77-71/148, +5) and ETSU's Rhys Pugh (73-75/148, +5). Pugh was also an A-Sun Second-Team All-Conference selection and All-Tournament member, while fellow Buccaneer and A-Sun All-Freshman teammate Gudmundur Kristjansson (80-71/151, +8) and USC Upstate's Ryan Cornfield (84-68/152, +9) completed the A-Sun participation in the Amateur Championship.
