ETSU's Power sets Scoring Record, Wins Individual Title

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - In his four seasons at ETSU, former Buccaneer great Rhys Davies (Bridgend, Wales) spent his time rewriting the men’s golf record books. Well, it didn’t take long for one of his more impressive marks to fall.
Sophomore Seamus Power (Waterford, Ireland) fired a final round 4-under-par 67 during third round play Tuesday in the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate at the Old Overton Club, finishing tied for the individual championship with host Alabama’s Mark Harrell, as the two ended their day at 15-under 198 for the tournament. Power’s efforts – which included rounds of 65-66-67 – bested the previous three-round record of 14-under 199 held by Davies, who enjoyed those three outstanding days in the 2004-05 NCAA East Regional.
“Coach reminded me of Rhys’ record yesterday, and told me it was out there so I was glad to make some putts and get it,” said Power, who now has two individual championships in his time at ETSU, including the 2007 Atlantic Sun Conference championship. “It’s good to do this against some strong teams. I was only 1-under with five to play but was able to birdie 14, 15 and 16 to get to 15-under.”
