DICKSON, TENN. - Sophomore Scott O’Brien (Brookings, S.D.) delivered the highlight of the spring season Tuesday, earning individual medalist honors as Belmont University men’s golf placed fifth at the MSU Spring Invitational.
O’Brien entered Tuesday’s final round three strokes off the pace after carding rounds of 69 and 71 Monday. But the 6,858 yard Par 72 Greystone Golf Course layout was a much sterner test Tuesday with winds gusting to 25 miles per hour.
As the overnight leaders fell back, O’Brien remained sharp and steady. His final round of one under par 71 proved good enough for first place at 211 (-5).
O’Brien’s previous best finish was a T-7 at last year’s Belmont Intercollegiate.
The Lipscomb Bisons golf team came from behind in the third round Tuesday to win the Murray State University Spring Invitational.
The Bisons shot a final round 293 as a team to clinch the win. They finished with a three-round total of 864, one shot ahead of second place Tennessee Tech.
Clint Suggs was the top finisher for the Bisons, tying for fourth place with a three-round total of 214 (69-71-74). Cody Hale tied for sixth with a 215 (69-70-76).
Parker Beck tied for 17th with a 219 (70-76-73) followed by Brandon Mundie in a tie for 27th with a 219 (79-70-74) and Cory Parkinson in a tie for 31st with a 224 (76-76-72).
