MACON, Ga. – ETSU senior Gareth Shaw’s win at the Atlantic Sun’s Men’s Golf Championship propelled him to his second Men’s Golfer of the Month award for 2008, the conference office announced on Wednesday.
The senior from Lisburn, Northern Ireland, has enjoyed a successful run starting with the A-Sun Championship win. He has since been named to European team for the Palmer Cup and the Player of the Year for the A-Sun. Earlier this year, the accounting major took home the monthly honor for February. At the A-Sun Championship, Shaw overcame a four-shot deficit after the first round with the second-lowest round of the event, a 4-under 67 in round two. He held onto the title, winning by a stroke. His win followed his teammate’s Seamus Power’s win at last year’s A-Sun Championship.
The Buccaneers’ men’s golf team and Shaw will partake in the NCAA Championships on May 15 at the East Regional to be contested at The Council Fire Golf Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.
The Atlantic Sun Conference is a 12-member league committed to Building Winners for Life, with a focus on academic and athletic integrity and a balance between the two for the student-athlete, and maintaining a high level of sportsmanship.
