MACON, Ga. - ETSU sprinter Duronal Monal claimed his second A-Sun Track Athlete of Week award Wednesday, but not to be outdone, Belmont’s Joe Frye earned his third Field Athlete of the Week honor. 

With one final tune-up before the 2010 Atlantic Sun Indoor Track and Field Championships, Monal made the most of the final competition, as the senior sprinter claimed the 55m title on Thursday night at the Mountaineer Open. The Belle Glade, Fla. native advanced to the finals after winning the prelims with a time of 6:29 and captured the crown in the 55m after sprinting in at 6.27, beating out Appalachian State’s Landon Powell (6.36).

Frye, A-Sun Field Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week, set another school record in the weight throw at the Redhawk Invitational. The Roscommom, Mich. native took fifth in the event with a distance of 18.30m (60'0.5"); besting the Belmont record he set back in December by more than a foot. The mark also stands as the best so far during the indoor season for A-Sun throwers. Frye also finished eighth in the shot put with a mark of 15.09m (49'6.25").
