MACON, Ga. – Kennesaw State teammates Jaakko Nieminen and Anjoun Armaly claimed the Atlantic Sun Conference Track & Field weekly awards, announced by the conference office on Wednesday, after the duo both broke school records at the Clemson Invitational. Nieminen’s time of 8:31 in the 3,000m run surpassed the five-year old previous mark by 11 seconds, while Armaly leaped to a distance of 46’10.75” to clinch the school record in the triple jump.
TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Jaakko Nieminen (Kennesaw State – Distance – Jr. – Jyvaskyla, Finland – International Business)
• First Career A-Sun Track Athlete of the Week award
• Broke five-year old school record in the 3,000m run with a time of 8:31
• Finished first in the race passing the previous school mark by 11 seconds
• Ranks 24th nationally in the 3,000m run
FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Anjoun Armaly (Kennesaw State – Jumps – Jr. – Freeport, Bahamas)
• First A-Sun Field Athlete of the Week award
• Finished in sixth place at the Clemson Invitational in the triple jump
• His top distance of 46’10.75” broke the previous school record
• Currently ranks 44th in the nation in triple jump
OTHER NOMINEES:
• Tucker Peabody (Sprints, Lipscomb) – Made the podium in his first NCAA meet finishing second in 200 meters at Ed Temple Classic in a time of 22.48
• Alex Jerkins (Throws, Lipscomb) – Finished fourth in the shot put and seventh in weight throw at Ed Temple Classic
