MACON, Ga. - In the opening week of the 2011-12 Atlantic Sun Conference Indoor Track & Field Season, Kennesaw State's Reginald Lewis and USC Upstate's Kenneth Sugishita earned the A-Sun weekly honors after their performances in the first week of competition.
TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Reginald Lewis, Kennesaw State (Fr. – Multi-Events – Albany, Ga.)
- First Career A-Sun Honor
- Broke two Kennesaw State records at SIU Fast Start Meet; 60m and 200m
- Jetted to a time of 6.86 for second place in 60m dash
- Claimed third place in the 200m dash in 22.48
- Added fifth place performance in long jump (6.95m)
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Cameron Thomas (Jr., USC Upstate) – Set school record in 1,000m run in time of 2:36.91
- Filip Jalovy (Fr., ETSU) – Won mile run at Appalachian Collegiate Indoor; placed second in 800m
FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Kenneth Sugishita, USC Upstate (Jr. – Throws – Arroyo Grande, Calif. – Accounting)
- First Career Field Athlete of the Week award
- Posted second-place finish in shot put (15.54m) in Clemson, S.C.
- Finished third in weight throw (15.45)
- Ranks 32nd in the nation in shot put
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Cornell Sneed (Sr., ETSU) – Placed seventh in weight throw and ninth in shot put at Appalachian Collegiate Indoor
