Inaugural Indoor Track & Field Championships - Day One

Johnson City, TN -- Day one of the inaugural 2006 Atlantic Sun Indoor Track and Field Championships concluded with 10 record-setting performances at ETSU's Memorial Center. The host led the way with three gold medals, Gardner-Webb, Campbell and FAU each captured two and Jacksonville took one. The Dolphins lead on the women's side with 61 points and the Bulldogs lead the men with 44.

The 60-meter dash and hurdle prelims took place with finals to be held tomorrow. ETSU's James Rainer, the SoCon champ from a season ago ran a 6.74 in the dash, just .02 seconds off of the NCAA provisional qualifying mark and is the top contender leading into the finals. Rainer's competition include Greg Dunston (6.88) and Uchenna Emejulu (7.07). Janita Ocana of Jacksonville ran a 7.54 in the third heat of the women's 60-meter prelims, followed by Yanique Booth (7.63), Tissilli Rogers (7.64).

In the hurdles, Michael Wright of ETSU ran the best time in the 60-meter hurdles with a 8.33. He also leads the heptathlon after four events with 2,759 points. FAU's Yanique Booth posted the best mark at 8.63.

In the 3,000-meter final, Campbell's Tara Dressler overtook Kennesaw State's Patrina Hayes in the final lap to finish with a time of 9:51.97. On the men's side ETSU' Jeff Crane finished in a time of 8:45.08 to set the A-Sun indoor record.

Campbell's Lincoln Gordon jumped to a 23.11.00 mark in the long jump finals. He met the NCAA provisional mark earlier in the season. Janita Ocana of JU leapt to a score of 19-01.25.
