Macon, Ga. -- For the first time in his collegiate career, Belmont's Channing
Twyner has been selected at the Atlantic Sun's Athlete of the Week, the league
announced today.
Twyner competed at the Saluki Classic in Carbondale, Ill., where he captured
a third place finish in the 60-meter dash with his league-leading time of 6.95
in the event. His time is not only tops in the league to date, but established
a new Belmont record as he passed teammate Clint Hamm's 2006 time of 7.19.
His recognition by the league marks the third time a male student-athlete from
Belmont has earned the AOTW honors as Twyner joins Seth Jones (Jan. 11, 2006)
and Will Peters (Jan. 10, 2007).
A senior from Jackson, Miss., Twyner is majoring in biology at Belmont.
The Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week is announced every Wednesday during the
2007 indoor track season.
The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell,
ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and
Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08.
