Schoenfeld and McCabe Nab Weekly Awards

MACON, Ga. – ETSU’s Aaron Schoenfeld and USC Upstate’s Jason McCabe earned the Atlantic Sun men’s soccer player of the week awards, announced by the league office on Monday, after leading both of their teams to undefeated weeks. Schoenfeld did his part for the Bucs as the junior registered overtime game-winning goals against Marshall and UNC Asheville, both 2-1 victories. McCabe picked up his second career defensive player of the week award for recording shutouts for the Spartans in a 1-0 win against UNC Asheville and a 0-0 double-overtime tie with Furman.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Aaron Shoenfeld, ETSU (Forward – Jr. – Knoxville, Tenn. – Business)
• First A-Sun Player of the Week award
• Scored two overtime game-winning goals for the Bucs on the week
• First game-winner came against regionally-ranked Marshall in 2-1 victory
• Second game-winner pushed Bucs ahead of UNC Asheville, 2-1, in double-overtime
• Also added an assist on the week to total five points

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Jason McCabe, USC Upstate (GK – Sr. – Irmo, S.C. – Interdisciplinary Studies)
• Second A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week award
• Allowed no goals on the week, while making seven saves
• Spartans went 1-0-1 on the week earning their first victory of the season
• Tied for the conference lead in shutouts with two

OTHER NOMINEES:
• Ryan Amons (GK, Campbell) – allowed only one goal on the week; tied for lead in shutouts
• Maurice Beggs (F, USC Upstate) – scored game-winner against UNC Asheville
• Nedim Hrustic (F/MF, Jacksonville) – totaled three goals on the week in two games
• Ian Cameron (MF, Mercer) – tallied a goal in a 2-1 victory against VMI
• Gonzalo de Mujica (MF, Stetson) – registered the game-winner for the Hatters against FAU
• Cristian Raudales (MF, FGCU) – netted fourth-career game-winner in 2-1 win against FIU
• Justin Smith (MF, Campbell) – added three points on the week to extend Campbell’s unbeaten streak to three
