BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Recognition continues to follow Campbell University on the heels of its finest men’s soccer season in nine years. Willy Guadarrama has been named third-team All-America by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. He was joined on the All-South Region teams by his younger brother Sonny Guadarrama and Devin Sheppard.
Willy Guadarrama, the national scoring leader, is Campbell’s first All-American since 1996 when Pasi Kinturi was presented third-team honors. His selection marks the sixth time a Fighting Camel has earned the distinction on the Division I level.
Willy Guadarrama also was a first-team All-South choice, while Sonny gained second-team honors. Junior defender Devin Sheppard earned third-team All-South distinction.
The trio marked the first all-region selections for Campbell since Pasi Kinturi was a third-team choice 1998 and the most in a year since four Camels – Brian Hunter, Nick Lawler, Anthony Peacock and Toni Siikala – were so honored in 1993.
“This is a great honor for all of our guys, not just the three that were recognized, and certainly some positive recognition for our program,” said Doug Hess, who was named Atlantic Sun Coach of the Year. “Sonny and Willy continually changed games for us all year long in the attack and Sheppy was a rock for us in the back. We are proud of their accomplishments and look forward to more great things from all of them next fall.”
