Monday, October 03, 2005 Macon, Ga. – The play of forward Tanner Wolfe and goalkeeper Jeff Smeraglinolo helped Stetson turn in a perfect 3-0-0 week including a pair of Atlantic Sun Conference victories, helping the duo claim Player of the Week honors as announced by the league office. Wolfe was a one-man wrecking crew for the Stetson attack. The sophomore forward racked up six goals including all three game-winners. Wolfe thought the highlight of his week would be his first career hat trick versus Flagler, but during the weekend, he added two goals versus Belmont and the only score against Lipscomb. In the Flagler match, Wolfe added an assist to have a hand in four of Stetson’s five goals while his free kick goal in the 75th minute versus the Bisons capped an astounding seven days of competition. The Hudson, Fla., native moved into a tie for second among the conference leaders in points and goals while he helped kick start a stagnant Stetson offense. Prior to the three-match outburst where the Hatters have outscored their opposition 13-1, the team had managed to net only 13 goals in the previous eight matches. Wolfe is majoring in Biology. Smeraglinolo played every minute of Stetson’s 3-0-0 week. The Rockledge, Fla., native saved his best for conference play, posting shutouts of both Belmont and Lipscomb. The goalkeeper made six saves versus the Bruins and tallied five more in a one-goal match with the Bisons. For the year, the junior ranks second in shutouts (2) and fifth in goals against average (1.75) in the league. Smeraglinolo is majoring in Business. The Atlantic Sun Conference hands out offensive and defensive Player of the Week awards weekly during the 2005 soccer campaign. The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, North Florida and Stetson.
