Monday, September 21, 2009 MACON, Ga. - Lipscomb’s Garret Pettis earned his first Player of the Week honor of 2009 after a four-point weekend and Stetson’s Logan Potter garnered defensive laurels. Pettis, a sophomore forward, scored a goal in each game of the Hyatt Place Select Invitational as the Bisons split with a 2-1 loss to UNC Asheville and a 3-2 win against Alabama A&M. The Elizabethtown, Pa. native attempted to rally the Bisons against UNC Ashville with a late tally but Lipscomb came up short. The health and physical education major scored the game-winning goal against Alabama A&M on Sunday. Potter, a sophomore goalkeeper, earned his second and third consecutive shutouts in Stetson's 4-0 and 1-0 wins over St. Joe's and Hofstra in the Stetson Soccer Classic. The Merritt Island, Fla. native has posted four shutouts in five games this season and owns 0.40 goals-against average in 2009. The business major leads the Atlantic Sun Conference in GAA, save percentage, and shutouts. With a 2-0-0 week, the Hatters remained the Atlantic Sun’s only unbeaten and untied squad.
Other Top Performers Justin Hay, Belmont (Sr. - M - Toronto, Ontario, Canada - Finance) -- Scored the game-winning goal in overtime against Alabama A&M. He had a strong overall performance against Alabama A&M and UNC-Asheville this weekend. Pat Regna, USC Upstate (Sr. - GK - Rochester, N.Y. - Interdisciplinary Studies) -- Was simply solid in goal for Upstate as the Spartans secured their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory at UNC Asheville last week. Made a diving save and another by coming out and punching a shot away in traffic to keep the Bulldogs off the board in the first half. Jonathan Mendoza, Stetson (Fr. - F – Altamonte Springs, Fla. - Business) -- Medoza scored the winning goal and assisted on another in Stetson's 4-0 win versus St. Joseph's.
