Thursday, October 22, 2009 DeLAND, FLA. - Freshmen Keegan Terry and Justin Smith provided the goals and Campbell took sole possession of first place in the Atlantic Sun Conference men's soccer standings Thursday night with a 2-0 victory at Stetson. Campbell improved to 6-7-1 overall, 5-0-1 in the A-Sun, while Stetson dropped to 10-2-2, 4-2-1 in the league. The Hatters entered the match rated eighth in the latest South Region rankings. After starting the year 1-6, Campbell stands 5-1-1 in its last seven matches. "I'm proud of the resolve we showed in our play," said Campbell head coach Doug Hess. "Our guys showed that they wanted this game tonight. I was particularly proud to keep a clean sheet against a potent attack like Stetson. They pulled us apart a couple of times, but in those moments we managed to bend, not break." The Camels limited the A-Sun's highest-rated offense (2.2 goals per game) to just three shots on target and Campbell keeper Ted Awana registered his second-consecutive (third overall) shutout. |
