Wednesday, August 18, 2010 MACON, Ga. – TopDrawerSoccer.com recently released its top-20 players of the Atlantic Sun Conference for both the men’s and women’s league teams. Stetson’s Tessa Gavilsky, the two-time A-Sun Player of the Year, claimed the top spot for the women’s side, while Mercer’s Ian Cameron topped the men’s list. Gavilsky tallied 11 goals and eight assists last season for the Hatters to become Stetson’s all-time leading scorer, while leading the team to an 11-7-2 record. Cameron, a senior midfielder, netted seven goals and four assists for the Bears en route to a 7-11-2 mark. Nine of the eleven voted to the Preseason All-Conference team appeared on the list, which included Belmont’s Erica Carter and Mercer’s Olivia Tucker in the second and third spots respectively behind Gavilsky. The Preseason Player of the Year, Jessica Hurtado of Jacksonville, ranked at number nine in the poll. All but three members of the recently announced A-Sun Preseason All-Conference team made the list, which included Preseason Player of the Year, Fredrik Brustad, who ranked third in the poll behind Cameron and Belmont’s Brandon Tarr. The 2010 Atlantic Sun men’s soccer season begins on the first of September with seven teams in action, while the women's side opens play this week with nine teams kicking off play on Friday, while the other two begin on Sunday. |
