Men's Soccer Two-A-Days: Second Edition

MACON, Ga. - Each day from August 26th through September 1st, the Atlantic Sun Conference will preview the upcoming 2010 Men’s Soccer season with the A-Sun Two-A-Days, where we interview a player or coach from each of the eleven A-Sun teams. Today we talked with Timo Foerster from USC Upstate and Garrett McLaughlin of Lipscomb.

Game to Watch: Sat., September 25th vs. Furman, 7 p.m. - In the final tune-up before the beginning of A-Sun play, the Spartans face off against the Paladins in a battle between schools that are separated by 30 miles. The Spartans will be looking for revenge as Furman won in their last match in 2008.

Top Returning Scorer: Maurice Beggs, Sr., Forward - Beggs, a native of Arima, Trinidad, led the Spartans with seven goals as well as points with 14. In the final four matches of the season, Beggs registered a goal, while helping the team to a victory over Belmont.

First Conference Game: Upstate's A-Sun slate begins with Mercer coming to Spartanburg on September 30th for a 7 p.m. kick-off. The Spartans defeated the Bears last season, 2-1, on the road behind goals from Erkan Yildirim and the game-winner courtesy of John Kadane.

Games to watch: Mon., Sept. 6th, 12 p.m. vs. Tulsa - The Bisons face defending C-USA Champions, Tulsa, in the Southern Methodist Invitational on Labor Day. The Hurricanes advanced to the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals last season and will serve as a great test for Lipscomb early in the non-conference.

Top Returning Scorer: Miguel DaSilva, Sr., Forward – DaSilva, a two-time First Team All-Atlantic Sun member, notched five goals and four assists last season to lead Lipscomb in all three categories. Twice during the season, DaSilva posted three points in a game netted the game-winning goal against USC Upstate.

First Conference Game: FGCU comes to Lipscomb for the conference opener on the first of October for a 7:30 start time. In Fort Myers last season, the Eagles came away with a 2-1 victory. The two teams are 2-2 against one another in the last four matchups.
