Tarr and Petricek Pick Up A-Sun Weekly Awards

MACON, Ga. – Belmont’s Brandon Tarr and Mercer’s Brett Petricek earned their first Atlantic Sun Player of the Week awards of the year for their performances this week, as announced Monday by the league office. Tarr led the Bruins to a 2-0 record on the week with three goals and an assist against Centenary and Gardner-Webb to claim the Mafiaoza’s Invitational, while Petricek received the Defensive Player of the Week as he earned his second shutout of the season, 3-0 against Radford, and Mercer won the Flash Gordon Motors Invitational.

 

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

Brandon Tarr, Belmont (Forward – So. – Knoxville, Tenn. – Business Administration)

• First A-Sun Player of the Week award

• Scored two goals including the game-winner against Gardner-Webb

• Notched a goal and an assist in the 5-2 victory over Centenary

• Earned All-Tournament honors at the Mafiaoza’s Invitational

• Moved into a tie for 10th place at Belmont for most career goals with 11

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

Brett Petricek, Mercer (GK – So. – Woodridge, Ill.)

• Second A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week award

• Earned second shutout of the season with a 3-0 win against Radford

• Leads the A-Sun with two shutouts

• Allowed only two goals this season in 253 minutes for a 0.71 GAA

• Recorded five saves on the week

OTHER NOMINEES:

• Bradley Shuck (D, Belmont) – earned All-Tournament accolades by recording assist game-winner against Gardner-Webb

• Itode Fubara (MF, ETSU) – scored game-winner against Bradley; assisted on first goal

• Adam Glick (GK, FGCU) – shut out Valparaiso and finished the weekend with ten saves

• Darko Karamatic (MF/F, Jacksonville) – scored game-winning goals against Georgia Southern and UNC Greensboro

• Miguel DaSilva (F, Lipscomb) – tallied one goal in each of Lipscomb’s victories this week

• Ian Cameron (MF, Mercer) – knocked in game-tying goal against High Point

• Hakeem King (MF/F, USC Upstate) – registered Spartans’ goal in a 1-1 tie with Presbyterian

• Jason McCabe (GK, USC Upstate) – recorded six saves allowing one goal in 110 minutes of play
