Tuesday, September 21, 2010 FORT MYERS, Fla. – In the most recent addition of the NSCAA/HendrickCars.com Rankings, the FGCU men’s soccer team was slotted seventh in the South Region. This marks the second time this season the Eagles have appeared in the top 10 in the regional rankings. After opening the season 2-0, the Blue and Green were tabbed fifth in the South Region in the first regular season poll of the 2010 campaign (Sept. 7). Following the draw with Drexel and the thrilling 1-0 shutout of No. 5-ranked Ohio State at the Embassy Suites Kick-Off Classic last week, the Eagles moved back into the seventh spot in the South Regional rankings. The top three teams in the South Region have remained the same through the three polls this season with North Carolina claiming the top spot, followed by Duke and Wake Forest. Also ahead of the Eagles on this week’s list is Davidson at number four, with South Carolina and FIU in fifth and sixth, respectively. The win over No.5-ranked Ohio State improved FGCU’s record to 3-2-2. The Eagles have now defeated two ranked BCS opponents this season, with the other coming in the 2-1 season opening road victory over then-No. 13 USF that snapped the Bulls 30-game (26-0-4) home unbeaten streak dating back to Sept. 21, 2007 against UCONN (L, 2-1). |
