Tuesday, September 28, 2010

MACON, Ga. – Two men’s soccer teams from the Atlantic Sun Conference appeared in the NSCAA South Region poll yesterday with FGCU (4-2-2) jumping up to sixth place and ETSU (5-2) receiving its first-ever regional ranking as the Bucs were voted eighth. The Eagles went 1-0 on the week defeating FIU, 2-1, while the Bucs tallied two overtime victories to secure the program’s first ranking.

In total, three teams from the A-Sun have appeared in the rankings so far this season as Jacksonville earned an eighth-place ranking in week two of the poll. The Eagles have been in the poll for three weeks and reached as high as fifth in the opening week of the poll for their victory at then-ranked No. 13 USF.

“The players have worked hard in training and games, and performed well to this point in the season,” said ETSU head coach Scott Calabrese. “The regional ranking is a reflection of this. I am very pleased with our progress and with our focus. I believe the players have a great deal of spirit, and they want to continue to build on our season thus far.”

The 2010 A-Sun Conference slate gets underway this week as FGCU opens on the road against Lipscomb and Belmont, while ETSU hosts Campbell and Mercer.
